Welcome to the Longfield school transition area of the learning portal. Whether you are reading this as a Year 6 student who hopes to join us soon, someone who is in key stage 3 or you are undertaking the daunting but exciting journey through to your GCSEs we will be with you every step of the way.
Transition means to change or evolve and although you may see your time at Longfield as a single journey it is divided into a number of steps. (See the links on this page) |
| During Key Stage 3 you will experience a whole range of different subjects and educational experiences.
When you are ready to move from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 the information in the transition area will offer support to help you to choose the subjects you want to study or route you want to follow to examination level.
As you study towards your GCSEs or equivalent courses we also help with the biggest step of all when you leave school. All pupils will carry on with their learning when they leave Longfield, so we will help you to find out about further education, both academic and applied learning courses and the world of work as well as higher education and universities. | |
As part of the 14-19 curriculum pupils can take some examination subjects in Year 9.
In year 10 and 11 pupils follow an appropriate route of academic or Applied Learning courses over one or two years. |
| The school ensures that all pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum which is taught in a way that encourages pupils to think for themselves, giving them strategies for solving problems and encouraging them to use their own initiative. This approach gives pupils a broad foundation for working life in which the types of jobs offered are changing rapidly and where a pupil may follow more than one career path. | |
| Leaving school for good can be a nervous experience for many, but you need to decide what next?, What's right for you? What do you want to do?
There are all sorts of questions that need to be asked and answered by yourself - but one thing is that Longfield School can help you by providing guidance and support in making your choices. We also have Connexions P/A support in school 3 days each week to provide additional experienced guidance. |
Education doesn't stop when you leave school. There are many options you need to consider, for example you may want to continue onto Further Education Colleges and eventually university, or you may want to do work based learning, apprenticeships or just go straight into employment with training opportunities available. There are many Open Evenings available for information on the above.
