 KS4 Physical Education

KS4 Subject Content
At key stage 4 there are a range of courses available to pupils.

We currently offer GCSE PE which involves being assessed through practical performance, performance analysis and through an examination.  Pupils suited to this course are practically able in most sporting disciplines.

Another course offered is the BTEC Certificate in sport which is the equivalent to 1 GCSE grade. This is coursework based but pupils learn through practical activity.

We offer the BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport which is predominantly coursework based however units are taught through a practical setting. This is the equivalent to 2 GCSE grades. Starting for the first time this year is the Sport and Active Leisure Diploma.
This is the equivalent to seven GCSE grades and is suited to academic pupils that are keen to work in the sport and active leisure industry.

 PE at Longfield

PE develops pupils’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school.

A high-quality PE curriculum enables all pupils to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully.

PE helps pupils develop personally and socially. They work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility. They take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating. Through the range of experiences that PE offers, they learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations.

 KS3 Physical Education

KS3 Subject Content
At key stage three pupils follow a broad curriculum including activities such as swimming, gymnastics, trampolining, dance, hockey, netball, rugby, football and basketball during the winter term. The summer term introduces sports such as tennis, rounders, cricket and athletics. Lessons are based on the five strands for national curriculum assessment and health related fitness plays a large role in this. Pupils are encouraged to achieve their potential and an extensive extra curricular programme supports this.
