 Music KS4 Subject Content

 

Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Music
The qualification will give you a practical understanding of the skills and knowledge needed for a career in the music industry. You will be provided with an insight into the various employment opportunities available.
Successful candidates may use the BTEC First Certificate as a route towards employment or further studies.

The qualification consists of two core unit plus a choice of two other specialist units totalling 180 guided learning hours.
The course allows you to focus on your talents and interests and explore new areas, such as an introduction to DJ technology, producing a musical recording or solo musical performance.
All units set will have an assignment brief which will set out the objectives and the tasks to be undertaken  in order to obtain a Pass, Merit or Distinctions. 
Because of the vocational nature of the course it is linked to the real world and the start date and end date of each assignment is very important.
You do not need to be a fantastic performer to take BTec music.  You need to be able to demonstrate how to improve and perform at your level!
A Pass for the whole course is equivelant to two C’s at GCS
A Merit for the whole course is equivelant to two B’s at GCSE
A Distinction for the whole course is equivelant to two A’s at GCSE

Level 2 BTEC first Diploma in Music

For those students who have already completed at gained at least a pass in the Certificate there is an opportunity for you to continue your musical studies.
You will complete one further core unit which will allow you to explore an area of the music profession
A further TWO optional units will also need to be complete.  These can be from a range of units not studied in the certificate.
 If you have a genuine interest in music and the roles in which music  plays a major part in the work place,  this could be for you!

 If you complete all the units successfully you will gain the equivalent of FOUR GCSE PASSES.
 

 
 
 

 Music at Longfield

 

At Longfield we try to encourage every child to develop an appreciation of different musical styles and cultures.

Students will be helped to develop the confidence to play keyboards and various specialist percussion instruments and use a range of music specific IT systems.

Those who show interest and/or the aptitude may wish to learn to play Brass, Woodwind or String instruments to a higher level.

The elements of music:
Learning about the elements we use in music - playing the drum kit - playing keyboards - singing - listening to music - unit examination for assessment - evaluate learning in the unit
Jazz and Blues music:  
Learning about the main features of Jazz and Blues music.  Developing compositional devises to create an authentic 12 bar blues performance.  Perform and evaluate  compositions and performance.

Music technology -
Magix music maker:
Learning to use a computer based composition programme - learn keywords – learn about composition techniques - using music technology to compose and record music for assessment- evaluate learning in the unit
African music:
Listen to African music - learn about and use African instruments - play African music - Learn keywords - sing African songs - learn about composition techniques -Compose and record African music for assessment - evaluate learning in the unit
Space music:
Listen to music related to space - learn about and use sound effects and specialist instruments - Learn keywords - learn about composition techniques - compose and record a piece of music related to space for assessment - evaluate learning in unit

Pop music:
Listen to popular music - learn about composition techniques - play pop music - Learn keywords - sing pop songs - compose and record a pop song for assessment - Evaluate learning in the unit
Horror music:
Listen to music related to 'horror' - learn about composition techniques, special effects and specialist instruments - play horror music - learn keywords - compose and record a horror piece of music for assessment - Evaluate learning in the unit
