 ICT at KS3

Subject Content at KS 3. Year 8
Class practise Touchtype package and use of e-mail.

Pupils use a spreadsheet to simulate a booking system for a cinema.  They look at the data they require, the layout of the system, verification and validation of data and how the model can be used in financial accounting and financial planning.  Pupils design and document their own spreadsheet booking system.

Pupils consider information on the web before designing and creating their own website based on a topic of own choice e.g. a hobby/interest/sport.   They are introduced to HTML but use the web authoring package 'Serif' to create their own websites.

Pupils will use the Flowol package to control, zebra crossing lights, a lighthouse and an automated greenhouse.

Pupils will use Publisher to create a leaflet/flyer. The topic is to be decided at the time of delivery so that we can use something topical.

Pupils will use the internet to find sources of information by refining searches.  They will evaluate information found in terms of its validity, reliability and possible bias.  They will decide how well the information satisfies the reason for looking at it and the extent of its fitness for purpose.

 ICT at Longfield

Information Technology is taught so that children will become familiar with, and able to use, computers and computer software to help them communicate, investigate and solve problems.  They also learn to use other kinds of everyday electronic equipment such as video recorders.

Information Technology is not intended to replace reading, writing and basic maths skills such as arithmetic, but to complement it - providing a sound basis that children can build on in secondary school, so that they understand how computers and Information Technology are used in industry and the workplace.

 ICT at KS4

Subject Content at KS 4.
Pupils use the lesson time and homework time to produce a large piece of coursework.
The scenario set for the completion of the coursework is a Leisure Centre.  Pupils will be given sufficient information to be able to analyse a system in place at the Leisure centre, and write an analysis report based on their findings.  They will then try to implement solutions to make the system better, in terms of efficiency and the time taken to do tasks within the Personnel Department.

Within the coursework pupils will be given the opportunity to use a variety of different software including word processing for their written work to produce a variety of reports such as the analysis report and the outline proposal, desktop publishing for producing job advertisements, spreadsheets for the sickness and absence spreadsheet, databases to keep staff details on, web page creation software to produce a web site for the Leisure Centre, and Presentation software to inform staff of the new system which has been implemented.

Pupils will need to carry out independent investigations and research.
Pupils need to be well motivated and have the ability to work independently.
