KS4 Subject Content

Students opting for History will study the OCR Modern World History 1937 syllabus.
This involves a detailed study of many of the events which have shaped the Twentieth Century.

The course is made up of three elements:
The Core: International Relations 1919 - 45
The Cold War 1945 - Present Day
British History
A Study In-depth: Germany 1918 - 45

Controlled Assessment
An 8 hour piece of work completed in lessons under direct supervision.
The theme of this assessment is set by the examination board.

Final assessment is completed in two stages:
Paper One: There are 3 sections to this 2 hour paper. Sections A & B test the core topics while Section C tests the in-depth study. This paper is worth 45% of the final mark.
Paper Two: This paper lasts for 1½ hours and students have to answer all questions on British History. This is worth 30% of the final grade.

Children are taught history so that they will develop an understanding of the past, of cause and effect, and of how the world they live in came about.

The collapse of European Empires & the global repercussions
How was a new peace created?

Term 2
Why did the European peace fail?  
Why was the Nazi party a success & how did the European countries handle Aggressive Nationalism?
How & why did the Holocaust happen

From friends to Enemies.
Thematic study 'The role of the individual'

Term 3
      
The British Empire how was it that by 1900 Britain controlled nearly a quarter of the world? 
The Welfare State
Thematic study. The Blitz
